What is electronic signature?
It is an electronic alternative used to sign digital documents and transactions and is done according to the latest global encryption mechanisms to achieve the highest levels of security, privacy, authentication, data integrity, and non-repudiation.
What is an electronic seal?
It is a digital tool used by entities and institutions (legal persons) to sign digital transactions whenever required. It is currently widely used in signing electronic invoices on the digital system of the Egyptian Tax Authority.
What is the difference between electronic signature and electronic seal?
- Electronic signature is used to verify the identity of a natural person who signs the digital document and is issued to a natural person only.
- Electronic seal is used to verify the identity of an entity on the digital document and ensuring that this document is issued by it.
Can an electronic seal be used as an alternative to an electronic signature or vice versa?
The basic rule here is the approved and accepted work cycle for users and recipients of the service; meaning that if the work cycle requires the use of only one of them, this must be adhered to.
For example: The Tax Authority allows electronic invoices to be approved using the electronic seal of the financier (legal person) or to the authorized representative (natural person) accredited to the Authority by the financier, provided that the authorized representative (natural person) uses the issued electronic signature. This comes in accordance with the Authority’s requirements regarding the number of invoices issued by the financier during a month.
